Toronto – Environment Canada issued a new heat warning on Saturday, marking the third consecutive warning over the weekend, as the heatwave impacting the Greater Toronto Area continues.
The agency stated that the high temperatures are expected to persist today and tomorrow, Sunday, with temperatures predicted to reach the mid-thirties Celsius, and a heat index exceeding 40 degrees due to high humidity.
Authorities urged residents to take necessary precautions, including avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak hours, drinking enough water, and monitoring the elderly, children, and those most susceptible to heat stress.
The city also urged checking available cooling centers and assistance for those without air-conditioned spaces.
This warning comes days after record temperatures were recorded in southern Ontario, amidst warnings of potential health impacts if current conditions continue.
