The Chinese envoy to the United Nations said that freedom of expression should not be used as a justification for hate speech against Muslims.

Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Dai Bing stated on Friday that China urges all countries to adopt a zero-tolerance approach and take concrete measures to combat discrimination and violence against Muslims, prevent incitement to hatred based on religion or belief, and put an end to impunity.

He added at the high-level meeting on the occasion of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia that China calls for promoting dialogue and exchanges between different civilizations and religions, rejects discrimination and bias against certain civilizations and religions, opposes the erroneous unilateral views regarding the so-called clash of civilizations and the supremacy of certain civilizations, and supports equality, learning, mutual dialogue, and inclusion among civilizations.

He called on political figures and the media to bear their legal, ethical, and social responsibilities.

On Friday, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution entitled "Measures to Combat Islamophobia," during a meeting on the occasion of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

115 countries voted in favor of the draft resolution submitted by Pakistan on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, while 44 countries abstained. No country voted against the resolution.

Among other things, the resolution calls for the appointment of a UN Special Envoy on Combating Islamophobia.
