The Canadian Environment Agency (Environment Canada) announced that the heat wave warning issued last Friday for the Ottawa-Gatineau area is expected to end on Thursday evening, after several days of high temperatures.
Meanwhile, the special air quality data issued by the agency on Monday remains in effect until Tuesday in many areas, amid ongoing weather conditions that contribute to declining air quality.
The heat warning currently covers most areas of Eastern Ontario, with the exception of some western communities such as Deep River and Bancroft, where temperatures remain relatively lower.
The Canadian Environment Agency indicated that high temperatures and high humidity continue to raise the heat index and the heat sensation, exacerbating health risks for the most vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and those with chronic diseases.
Health authorities urged residents to take additional precautions, including drinking plenty of water, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities, and staying in cool places as much as possible until the heat wave subsides and air quality improves as expected by the end of the week.
