The Canadian Ministry of Environment has issued a warning of a severe heat wave affecting the Ottawa and Gatineau areas, where high temperatures are expected to last until the end of the week, with high humidity levels increasing the feeling of heat.

According to the forecasts, high temperatures will range between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius, while the perceived temperatures may exceed 40 degrees due to humidity, increasing the risk of heat stress and heat strokes, especially among the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic illnesses.

Health authorities have advised residents to avoid exposure to sunlight during peak hours, to drink plenty of water, and to make sure to stay in air-conditioned places as much as possible. Municipalities have also been urged to provide public cooling centers for those unable to stay in safe and cooled environments.

It is noted that this wave is one of the strongest heat waves recorded this summer, amidst warnings of its potential impacts on public health and infrastructure, especially in light of ongoing warnings about unprecedented climate changes.
