The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, delivered a speech on the occasion of the adoption of a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for combating Islamophobia, in which he called for a ceasefire in Gaza and Sudan.

In his speech, Guterres denounced the "demonization of Muslims around the world" after he praised their civilizational contributions throughout history, describing "Islamophobia" as "the malignant plague".

After the adoption of the resolution, which was submitted by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, with a majority of 115 votes in favor, and abstention by 44 countries including European Union countries and others, Guterres gave a speech condemning the "rising wave of hatred and intolerance against Muslims".
