A massive fire broke out at the headquarters of the Security Directorate in Ismailia Governorate, northeast of Cairo, in the early hours of Monday, October 2, 2023, and civil protection forces managed to extinguish it.
The civil protection forces dispatched dozens of fire trucks to put out the fire, while the Ismailia branch of the Ambulance Authority sent several ambulances to transport the injured to the hospital.
Egyptian media reported that parts of the burning building collapsed, while army fire trucks participated in the firefighting operations.
The Ismailia Governorate announced a state of emergency in all hospitals in the governorate to receive the fire victims.
Medical sources stated that several conscripts were rescued and there were still others trapped inside the building, adding that the condition of some of the injured is critical.
For its part, Egyptian media reported that the number of injured has risen to 21 so far, and the Suez Canal firefighting devices are participating in the firefighting efforts.
A state of emergency has been declared in Ismailia hospitals, and firefighting vehicles from neighboring cities have arrived to participate in extinguishing the fire, using "furniture moving cranes" to transfer the injured.
Videos have circulated on social media capturing cries for help from inside the building, while another video showed a person falling from the top of the building.
