Toronto police revealed new developments in the hit-and-run incident that occurred on the campus of Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) last week, which was described at the time as "deliberate targeting." Authorities announced on Wednesday the identity of the suspect, along with additional details about the vehicle he used in the incident.
According to an official statement from the police, the suspect is named Kamaleddin Mohammed Suleiman, is 29 years old, and faces serious charges including attempted murder, dangerous driving that caused injuries, and fleeing the scene of an accident.
Investigations revealed that the suspect was driving a black 2017 Honda CR-V with Ontario license plate number CVEN 900. Police indicated that the vehicle had noticeable damage to the front left side as a result of the incident, and it is still sought for recovery in the ongoing investigation.
The incident occurred on Monday, April 8, when a vehicle struck a pedestrian on the TMU campus on Gold Street, and the driver fled immediately. The victim, a young man in his twenties, was taken to the hospital in critical condition but is now stable.
Police confirmed that the incident was not random, but rather targeted and intentional, without disclosing details of the potential motive so far.
Toronto police urged the public to assist in locating the suspect or the vehicle used, and requested anyone with information to contact the investigation unit immediately.
Investigations are ongoing amid a sense of apprehension on campus, where university administration expressed serious concern and called for enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of students and staff.
