Toronto – Arab Canada News
Members of two families in Ontario expressed their shock and fear after unexpected fires broke out in their washing machines inside their homes, confirming that the incident could have cost them their lives. One of the affected women told CTV: “We could all have died. We woke up to the sound of the smoke alarm and the fire had already started spreading in the basement.”
The incidents occurred at different times over the past few weeks, and both washing machines were of the same model, raising concerns about the safety of the product. The families confirmed that the washing machines were not in operation at the time the fires broke out, which supports suspicions of an internal electrical malfunction.
For its part, the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office confirmed that it has opened an investigation into the incidents, emphasizing the importance of disconnecting electrical appliances from power when not in use. It also urged consumers to follow any official recalls issued by manufacturers.
While awaiting the investigation results, the victims called on authorities to enforce stricter monitoring of the quality and safety of household appliances, while one family confirmed that they are considering filing a lawsuit after significant financial and emotional losses.
It is worth noting that the incidents did not result in any human injuries, but the material damages were significant, raising concerns about the potential for such incidents to recur in other homes across the province.
