Local authorities in the U.S. state of Tennessee reported on Sunday that a small aircraft carrying between 16 to 20 people crashed on Old Shelbyville Road at around 12:15 PM local time.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) described the situation as "active," while emergency and rescue teams were immediately stationed at the crash site. According to statements from Lyle Rachel, spokesperson for the city of Tullahoma, no fatalities had been reported at the time of this report, although a number of injuries had been recorded, most of which were described as minor, except for two cases that were airlifted to nearby hospitals due to the severity of their injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate that the aircraft was being used for skydiving purposes and struck some trees while approaching landing, causing it to lose control and crash in the area.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that it has opened a joint investigation with the Highway Patrol and local authorities to determine the circumstances of the incident, issuing a warning to keep the roads surrounding the site clear to facilitate the passage of rescue and emergency vehicles.

Despite the seriousness of the incident, emergency response teams displayed promptness in action, as first aid was provided to the injured at the site, while others were transported to hospitals for necessary treatment.
