Toronto paramedics reported that six people were taken to the hospital on Tuesday evening following a shooting incident in the Lawrence Heights area, north of the city.
Paramedics confirmed that the victims' conditions range from minor to serious, without specifying their ages or providing further details about the nature of the injuries. It is still unclear whether there are any life-threatening injuries.
According to Toronto police, the incident occurred in the vicinity of Flemington Road and Rebecca Street, and the area has been temporarily closed off for investigation. Multiple gunshots were reported, but police have not yet confirmed the number of suspects or the background of the incident.
Authorities stated that teams of investigators are on-site collecting evidence and reviewing surveillance camera footage, and they urged anyone with information to contact the police.
This incident comes amid growing concerns over the rise of gun violence in some neighborhoods of the city, alongside repeated calls to enhance community prevention efforts and increase police presence.
