Ottawa – Arab Canada News
Canadian federal Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre denied any connection between his party and a controversial by-election campaign in Alberta, allegedly supported by local separatist forces.
This comes after reports indicated that the Alberta Independence Party, which promotes a separatist agenda from Canada, endorsed a Conservative candidate in the Calgary Heritage by-election.
Poilievre stated in a press conference in Ottawa:
“We have no relation to these people and we do not want any connection with them. We completely reject separatist tendencies and advocate for the unity of Canada.”
The Conservative leader emphasized that his party will focus on issues that matter to Canadians, including the cost of living and high taxes, rather than on “marginal agendas,” as he described them.
The reports have stirred wide controversy, as some critics believe that the implicit support from separatist groups could undermine the unity of the country and weaken the image of the Conservative Party in Alberta and beyond.
For his part, Poilievre stressed that his campaign in Calgary Heritage is completely independent and has not sought help from any external entity, adding that any attempt to link his party with separatist movements is “pure political slander.”
