The Ottawa Police confirmed the identity of the elderly couple who were found deceased in their home in the Barrhaven area, in an incident being treated as a murder followed by a suicide.
The police stated in a statement issued Saturday evening that preliminary investigations indicate the 81-year-old man killed his 79-year-old wife before taking his own life. The bodies were found inside the family home on Harrington Street after a family member alerted authorities out of concern for their safety.
The police said that initial indications do not suggest any threat to the public or the involvement of external parties, confirming that investigations continue to determine the motives and potential backgrounds behind this tragedy.
The Ontario County Coroner's Office has been notified of the case, and forensic examination and analysis procedures have commenced, while the relatives of the victims have been informed and provided with psychological support.
This incident is one of the most tragic events witnessed in the Barrhaven area recently, and it has sparked a wave of shock and sadness within the local community, accompanied by calls to enhance psychological and social support services for the elderly and their families.
