A man and three others died in the hospital after a plane wheel hit a bus on Queen Elizabeth Way in St. Catharines, Ontario, on Friday afternoon.
This occurred in the northbound lanes toward Toronto on the highway on the descending side of the Garden City Skyway bridge around 3:30 PM.
Ontario Provincial Police said a truck was traveling in the northbound lanes toward Toronto when one of its wheels exploded.
The police clarified that the wheel hit a pickup truck in the opposite lane before striking the windshield of the bus headed to Toronto. Images show a tour bus with its windshield shattered and a pickup truck missing a front wheel.
Police reported that a 48-year-old bus passenger from Toronto died at the scene, and three other passengers were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries.
It was unclear how many passengers were on the bus at the time of the incident.
All northbound lanes on Queen Elizabeth Way were closed for hours due to the crash, and police indicated that the highway is expected to reopen later.
