A police officer in the Toronto Police Service's drug squad faces multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, after attempting to evade police during a traffic stop in Mississauga.

Peel Regional Police said they initially received a call about a disabled driver in the Courtney Park Drive and Hurontario Street area before 3 a.m. last Wednesday.

Officers located the vehicle and “attempted to stop it,” according to Const. Molika Sharma in an email statement.

Sharma said multiple Peel police vehicles were damaged during the incident and two officers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The suspect, a 37-year-old detective who has served for 13 years with the Toronto Police, was eventually arrested and charged with the following:

Driving while impaired by alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and failing to stop after an accident.

A spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service said in an email that the officer, who resides in Brampton, has been suspended from duty.

According to Ontario's Sunshine List, he earned approximately $137,500 in 2023.
