A community group and an Ottawa city councilor condemned the arrival of the far-right Diagolon group after they brought the "Road Rage Terror Tour" to Ottawa over the weekend.
On Saturday, the group held an event at the Carp Agricultural Hall in the west end of Ottawa as part of a cross-country tour. Diagolon was described in a 2022 House of Commons report as an organization "motivated by ideology" and a "violent extremist" group.
West Carleton Councillor Clarke Kelley said in a press release: "It caught my attention that a group promoting hate speech and racism was hosting an event in Carp this evening."
He added that he wanted to make it clear that there is no place for such behavior in West Carleton Marsh, and he strongly condemned the presence of such a group in our community.
A Diagolon website stated that the event held on July 6 was "successful" and tickets were sold for $60 for entry. It is unclear how many people attended this event.
The Ottawa Police Service stated in a post on social media platform X on Saturday that they were "aware" of the tour and "received reports" from residents about the event.
The police said on Saturday evening: "The project services office is monitoring the event and the situation."
The group intends to hold more events across the country this month with scheduled dates in Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Saskatoon.
The Ottawa Community Solidarity Organization (CSO), an anti-fascist community group, describes Diagolon as a group of neo-Nazis and white nationalists.
Civil society organizations alerted residents about the event on social media.
