Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to arrive in Washington, D.C. today, Monday, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the NATO military alliance.
The perilous situation in war-torn Ukraine and the unstable position of U.S. President Joe Biden will affect the leaders' summit, which is officially scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
The upcoming U.S. elections and the possibility of a second term for the Trump administration have raised concerns among some NATO countries that the strongest critics of the alliance will retake control of its most powerful military forces.

Trudeau hopes to bolster support for sending military aid to Ukraine as doubts grow about the continuation of fighting in the U.S. and Europe.
Defense Minister Bill Blair is expected to speak about Canada’s defense in the Arctic at a foreign policy security forum in Washington later today before joining Trudeau and Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly at the NATO leaders' summit later this week.
