Investigators have determined the cause of death for the four family members whose bodies were found inside the home in Harrow in June.
Post-mortem examinations revealed that Carly Stannard Walsh, 41, and her children, 13-year-old Madison and 8-year-old Hunter, died from their injuries due to gunshot wounds.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stated in a press release on Saturday that the cause of death for Stephen Walsh, 42, was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Essex County OPP began its investigation on June 20 after officers received a request to check on someone's wellbeing at the home, leading to the discovery of the deceased individuals.
The provincial police stated that the investigation being conducted by the crimes unit is still ongoing under the supervision of the OPP's criminal investigation branch, with assistance from forensic identification services, in collaboration with the chief coroner's office and the Ontario forensic science service.
The "preliminary investigation" determined that the Walsh family's deaths were the result of intimate partner violence.
Police stated: "Intimate partner violence involves the use of physical, psychological, or sexual force, whether actual or threatened, in an intimate relationship. However, these acts are not always physical and may involve emotional and psychological abuse, economic control, or coercive control."
"Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) encourages anyone experiencing intimate partner violence to contact the police or their local victim services branch in Ontario to develop a safety plan."
Anyone with information regarding the Walsh family's deaths is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Information can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online.
Funeral services for Carly, Madison, and Hunter were held on July 2 at the Families First Funeral Home in Windsor. Stephen was not included in the arrangements.
OPP continues to remind the public that there is no threat to public safety.
