An increasing number of major companies in Canada and the United States are moving towards reducing the flexibility of remote work by imposing mandatory office attendance days and tightening tracking and compliance policies, clearly indicating that the golden era of working from home has begun to wane.
According to a report published by CTV News, employees in financial institutions, technology companies, and manufacturing firms have returned to stricter hybrid models, with some departments requiring employees to spend three to four days a week at the workplace, after years of allowing a flexible work schedule.
Daniel Tsai, a human resources analyst, said, "The noticeable change in companies' stance is due to considerations of productivity, cultural integration, and talent retention, after employers observed a decline in interaction and innovation with the continuation of long-term remote work."
Polls indicate that these moves are causing dissatisfaction among some employees who have become accustomed to the flexible work style, while others see it as an opportunity to restore the boundaries between professional and personal life.
Nevertheless, many companies confirm that they are not moving to completely eliminate remote work models, but rather seeking to "rebalance," with expectations that the coming year will see more gradual tightening of office attendance policies.
