New audio recordings issued by the control tower at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) revealed moments of anticipation and readiness experienced by the flight crew during an alleged hijacking attempt.
The recordings, obtained by CTV News, showed a warning directed to commercial pilots, stating: “We do not know their intentions… be on alert.”
The incident occurred on Monday evening when a private plane reported a potential security threat on board, prompting emergency services to declare a state of alert and temporarily suspend some operations.
Officials said the plane landed at the airport without any injuries, and a suspect on board was detained for questioning. The police have not yet confirmed whether the threats were real or a false alarm.
Transport Canada indicated that investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances of the incident, while the airport management confirmed that all flights later resumed normal activity.
The incident raised concerns among passengers and staff, especially with direct radio warnings to aircraft near the runway urging them to exercise caution and avoid approaching until the security assessment is completed.
