Recent data released by Statistics Canada showed the continued widening gap between high and low income earners in the country, despite improvements in general economic indicators.
According to the report, the top ten percent income group witnessed wealth growth at a rate far exceeding what was achieved by lower income groups, which raises concerns about increasing social and economic inequality.
Experts explained that rising living costs, slowing wage growth in some sectors, and disparities in investment opportunities all contributed to entrenching this disparity.
The report warned that the continuation of this trend could lead to broader economic and social repercussions, calling on policymakers to take concrete measures to support low-income households and achieve a fairer distribution of wealth.
Statistics Canada confirmed that these indicators will be used to update tax policies and social support in the coming years.
