Moscow – Arab Canada News
A new report from Kaspersky, the cybersecurity company, revealed that approximately 8,500 users from small and medium enterprises worldwide fell victim to cyberattacks in 2025, through malicious or unwanted files disguised under the names of popular productivity tools.
The report clarified that hackers exploited familiar application names like Zoom and Microsoft Office as bait for users, in an attempt to breach systems and steal data. The report also noted an increase in the exploitation of popular artificial intelligence services, including ChatGPT and DeepSeek, in phishing campaigns and targeted cyberattacks.
Kaspersky confirmed that the attacks specifically targeted companies suffering from weak security infrastructure, taking advantage of their lack of resources or technical expertise, making them relatively easy targets.
The report recommended adopting several protective strategies, such as enhancing employee training on phishing tactics, installing updated protection software, and avoiding downloading applications or files from untrusted sources, while encouraging the adoption of security solutions tailored for small and medium enterprises.
This warning comes at a time when cyber threats are becoming more sophisticated and complex, especially with the rapid proliferation of artificial intelligence technologies, which have simultaneously become a development tool and an opportunity for attack for malicious entities.
