The Canadian Union of Postal Workers announced that unionized employees at Canada Post will begin voting on a proposed labor agreement starting July 21, in a step that could determine the future relationship between management and workers at the federal institution.
This agreement comes after months of negotiations between the two parties, amidst demands for improved wages, working conditions, and guarantees related to job security.
The union stated in a press release that the voting process will continue for several weeks and will include all members working in postal facilities across the country.
Union officials said the agreement includes salary increases, additional incentives, and amendments to some clauses of previous contracts, but urged members to study the details carefully before voting.
For its part, Canada Post management welcomed the draft agreement, considering it a “fair and balanced settlement” that meets the interests of both employees and the company.
Voting results will be announced as soon as the process is completed, while the union has not ruled out returning to union escalation in case members reject the proposed agreement.
