Ottawa – Arab Canada News
The local authorities in Ottawa issued new warnings on Sunday morning as the severe winter weather conditions continued, predicting additional freezing rain accumulation of between 5 and 10 mm during the day, which increases the risk of power outages and the formation of ice on roads and power lines.
The Canadian Environmental Agency stated that the weather conditions would remain unstable until this evening, with the opportunity for layers of ice to accumulate on surfaces, which could lead to fallen trees or power outages in some neighborhoods, especially in the western areas of the capital.
Electric companies on alert
Hydro Ottawa reported that it has raised its technical readiness in anticipation of any outages and has prepared field teams to respond to emergency reports, urging residents to charge their devices and prepare emergency lights and essential supplies in case the outages last for hours.
Police warn against unnecessary driving
In the same context, the Ottawa Police emphasized the need to avoid unnecessary travel, confirming that many roads may become slippery and dangerous due to the accumulated ice, and urged drivers to exercise caution and drive at low speeds while using winter tires.
Gradual improvement on the horizon
Despite the harsh current conditions, the meteorological agency predicted a gradual improvement in the weather starting this evening, with precipitation shifting to light rain and a slight increase in temperatures at the beginning of the week.
