Toyota said in a press release on Thursday that it is conducting a safety recall for approximately 28,061 SUVs and pickups in Canada due to transmission issues.

The affected vehicles include 2023 and 2024 Toyota Tundra, Sequoia, and Lexus LX 600 models.

Toyota stated that certain parts of the vehicle's transmission may not disengage immediately when the vehicle is shifted to neutral.

The statement explained, "This could allow some engine power to continue being transmitted to the wheels and could cause the vehicle to creep forward at a low speed unintentionally when on a flat surface and the brakes are not applied, increasing the risk of a crash."

Toyota said, "Toyota and Lexus dealers will update the transmission software to fix the issue, and owners of the recalled vehicles will be notified by the end of April."

In January, Toyota recalled some 2003 to 2004 models in Canada, including nearly 5,000 Corollas, 1,600 Corolla Matrix, and 700 RAV4 vehicles due to an airbag inflator defect.

Customers who believe they are affected by the recall can visit the Toyota Canada or Lexus Canada websites and enter their vehicle identification number.

If your vehicle is affected, contact a Toyota or Lexus dealer to update your vehicle's software for free.
