Ten people were transported to the hospital, including two in critical condition, following a multi-vehicle collision that occurred Wednesday morning on Highway 99 near Whistler, according to British Columbia Emergency Health Services (BCEHS).

DriveBC reported that the accident occurred between Callaghan Valley Road and Brew Creek Forest Service Road, near the "Welcome to Whistler" sign. Police and emergency services responded quickly to the scene around 9:00 AM Pacific Time.

Christina Boehmer, a spokesperson for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), confirmed in a press release that bad weather contributed to poor road conditions, leading to the closure of Highway 99 in both directions. She added:

"Due to the road conditions and the closure of Highway 99 in both directions, we advise people not to travel in this area at this time."

BCEHS reported that two people were taken to the hospital in critical condition, while eight others were transported in stable condition for treatment.

Boehmer indicated that the highway will remain closed for an extended period until the investigation is completed and debris is cleared. She added:

"There will be significant delays until the investigations are finished and the road is reopened."

Investigations are still underway to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident, as the police have not released any additional details about the number of vehicles involved or the factors that led to the incident.

Highway 99, also known as the "Sea to Sky" highway, connects Vancouver and the city of Whistler, passing through mountainous areas, making it prone to accidents, especially under bad weather conditions. Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution and avoid driving in the area until conditions improve.
