Field reporters in Sudan reported today, Wednesday, that the Rapid Support Forces have begun extensive and ongoing withdrawals from key locations within the capital, Khartoum, via the Jebel Awliya Bridge south of the city, in a significant field development that is the most notable in weeks.

Simultaneously with these movements, the Sudanese army announced that it has regained full control of Khartoum International Airport, after battles described as fierce against units of the Rapid Support Forces that had been stationed around it since the outbreak of the conflict in April of last year.

Military sources confirmed that "the qualitative operations carried out by the armed forces in the past hours succeeded in fully securing the airport and cutting off supply lines to the rebels in neighboring areas," referring to the Rapid Support Forces led by Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo "Hemeti."

This military advancement by the army comes at a time when there are increasing signs of internal fractures within the Rapid Support Forces, amid reports of disorganized withdrawals and a decline in the ability of those forces to withstand in the main combat axes in the capital.

According to eyewitnesses, military vehicles and trucks carrying fighters were seen withdrawing across the Jebel Awliya Bridge heading south, amid a near-total absence of their presence in some neighborhoods of Khartoum that were previously under their control.

Regaining control of Khartoum Airport is a step of strategic and symbolic importance, as it was one of the most prominent symbols of sovereignty and control within the capital, and it opens the door for the army to reconnect the city with its surroundings and resume operations at one of the most vital facilities in the country.

No official comment has been issued yet from the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces regarding these withdrawals or the loss of the airport.
