The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed his deep shock at reports indicating the killing and injury of several Palestinians while trying to access humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, considering what occurred "completely unacceptable."
Guterres stated in an official statement: "We are shocked by the reports of the killing and injury of Palestinians while trying to access aid in Gaza," adding: "It is unacceptable for civilians to be forced to risk their lives in order to obtain food."
The Secretary-General called for "an independent and transparent investigation into these incidents to ensure accountability and prevent their recurrence," emphasizing that the international community has a moral and legal responsibility to protect civilians and ensure they receive aid without obstacles.
This position comes amidst increasing warnings from relief organizations about the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, especially amid the stalling of aid distribution mechanisms, and accusations of civilians being targeted during their attempts to obtain food and medicine.
