Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged Canadian citizens still in Lebanon on Saturday to register in preparation for their evacuation on special flights that have already helped over a thousand people leave as the security situation deteriorates there.
A spokesperson in Trudeau's office mentioned that six thousand Canadians have registered to leave, while officials are trying to reach another 2,500 on Saturday and Sunday, adding that more flights have been added on Monday and Tuesday.
Trudeau said during a summit in France for French-speaking leaders, "There are still seats available on the flights organized by Canada. We urge all Canadians to take these planes and leave Lebanon while they still can," according to Al-Sharq news site.
The official in the Prime Minister's office stated that Canada has not been able to fill the seats on the flights with its citizens and has offered seats to citizens from Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and some European countries.
Trudeau stated that a ceasefire must be implemented immediately by Hezbollah and Israel, so that the situation can stabilize, and the respect for United Nations resolutions can begin again.
