A 13-year-old girl lost her life in the Montreal area after a snow tunnel she was digging collapsed on her, according to local police.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when the girl was playing in the snow with a family member. They were digging a snow tunnel when it suddenly collapsed and buried her underneath. According to the police, emergency services were called to the scene, and upon arrival, rescue teams worked to free the girl and transport her to the hospital in critical condition, but she later died from her injuries.
The police stated that the preliminary investigation indicates the incident was accidental, and there is no suspicion of any criminal act. Authorities also urged residents to exercise caution when playing in the snow, especially when building tunnels or digging deep, due to the potential risks associated with it.
The incident has sparked a wave of sadness in the local community, with many residents expressing their condolences to the girl's family, while schools and community centers have called for awareness among children about the dangers of unsafe winter activities.
