A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck the southern coast of British Columbia on Friday evening, causing homes to shake and residents to feel tremors in several areas, according to the Canadian Geological Survey.
The earthquake occurred approximately 180 kilometers southwest of Vancouver, in the Pacific Ocean, at 8:40 PM local time. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or significant property damage have been reported so far, and no tsunami warnings have been issued.
Many residents reported on social media that they felt the tremor, especially in the Vancouver, Victoria, and Nanaimo areas. The British Columbia emergency agency confirmed that it is monitoring the situation closely, noting that the earthquake is part of the region's normal seismic activity, as British Columbia is one of the most earthquake-prone areas in Canada.
Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and follow safety measures in the event of aftershocks, emphasizing the importance of being prepared for such emergencies.
