Toronto police announced the arrest of three individuals accused of 54 counts of auto theft.
The police revealed these details at a press conference yesterday, Tuesday, where they stated that three individuals, including a minor, were arrested and charged in a series of alleged vehicle thefts in the city.
The first theft incident occurred on April 6 at around 2 PM near Kennedy and Ellesmere Roads, where three suspected individuals approached a person exiting a blue BMW X5 and demanded the car keys. The police stated that one of the suspects pointed a gun at the individual, then the suspects stole the vehicle and fled.
Around 8 PM on April 11, the police reported that officers responded to a theft incident on Yonge and Sheppard Avenue in North York, where four male suspects were attempting to steal a white 2021 Lamborghini Urus at a gas station.
The police also stated that the car owner suffered repeated assaults and was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
On April 12 at around 10:27 PM on Steeles and Islington Streets in North York, the police said officers found both vehicles in a parking lot off Barmac Drive.
When the blue BMW X5 attempted to leave the area, officers moved in, and the police stated that the driver went back up the hill and collided with several police cars while trying to flee.
They added that officers eventually arrested the three occupants of the vehicle, along with seizing three firearms, over $18,000 in cash, and two vehicles.
The suspects face a total of 54 charges, including possession of a prohibited firearm without a license.
The police mentioned in the press release: "Even when surrounded by police cars, the driver refused to comply with the officers' demands and attempted to flee again."
