The Canadian police have arrested two prominent Canadian billionaires, Robert G., aged 91, and Frank Stronach Miller, aged 80, on charges of alleged sexual offenses spanning decades.
According to Forbes magazine, Stronach grew up in Austria, immigrated to Canada, and amassed his fortune after founding Magna International Inc, an auto parts manufacturing company. As of 2018, his wealth was estimated at 1.5 billion USD.
Meanwhile, Miller co-founded Future Electronics in 1968 and after purchasing his partner's stake in 1976, Future Electronics grew into a company employing over 5,000 people and generating more than 5 billion USD annually. Reportedly, his net worth is 2.6 billion USD.
Stronach, who lives in Aurora, Ontario, was arrested on June 7 and faces five criminal charges, including rape, sexual assault of a female, two counts of sexual misconduct, and forcible confinement. Peel Regional Police allege that the sexual assaults "spanned from the 1980s to 2023.
The police stated that Stronach was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Ontario's Court of Justice later.
Stronach vehemently denies all the allegations.
Just a week prior, investigators from the Sexual Exploitation Unit of the Montreal City Police (SPVM) announced that they had arrested Miller on May 30 concerning "sexually related incidents" occurring between 1994 and 2016.
The 80-year-old Miller was arrested in Westmount based on a warrant connected to charges involving ten victims, some of whom were minors at the time of the alleged acts.
Miller faces a total of 21 charges relating to sexual assault and obtaining sexual services for consideration, pimping and sexual exploitation, solicitation for prostitution, sexual contact, and engaging in sexual acts with a minor for compensation.
A consumer rights group filed a class action lawsuit against Miller in February 2023, and according to court documents, more alleged victims are coming forward.
A document dated March 27, 2024, states that one of the alleged victims, identified as B.N., claims she was only 11 years old when she reported having "ongoing sexual relations" with Miller; which continued until she turned twenty.
The document specifies that the petitioner B.N. met the defendant Miller a total of at least 30 times, sometimes a few times a month and at other times after several months.
The lawsuit seeks damages of up to 200 million USD.
Miller is set to appear in court on July 3; however, his attorney has stated that she filed a motion arguing that Miller would not be able to attend court without medical staff and equipment as he suffers from various medical conditions, including "advanced progressive Parkinson's disease."
On February 3, 2023, Future Electronics announced that Miller would step down permanently from his positions as Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO to focus on his extremely serious health problems and devote his attention to protecting his reputation.
The statement read that Miller "strongly denies the malicious allegations against him and asserts that they are false and entirely unfounded and arose from a bitter divorce."
