A person was killed and 26 others were injured after a bus carrying tourists from Quebec crashed in Cuba on Sunday.

Air Transat confirmed to Noovo Info that 38 passengers were on board flight TS715 at the time of the incident near Santa Clara Airport. A car lost control and collided with the bus, causing it to overturn, according to the airline's spokesperson Bernard Côté.

The accident occurred in the municipality of Camajuaní, about 25 kilometers east of the airport.

Côté stated that all passengers were sent to a nearby hospital.

He added in an email: "We are definitely concerned about everyone's health and well-being, and we are doing everything we can to provide them with the support they need during this difficult time," adding that Air Transat arranged accommodation at a nearby hotel for travelers under observation or suffering from minor injuries.

Several Cuban media outlets reported that the person in the car, a Cuban citizen, was the one who died, and that among the injured were six children. One of the injured was listed in critical condition.

The Canadian Department of Global Affairs stated in a statement to Noovo Info that it is aware of the incident and ready to provide consular assistance if needed, but it has not yet received such a request.
