A person was killed and 26 others were injured after a bus carrying tourists from Quebec in Cuba was involved in a collision last Sunday near Santa Clara Airport.

According to Cuban media, the driver of the vehicle, a Cuban citizen, was the person who died.

The bus was en route to the airport for a return trip to Montreal when it crashed in Camajuaní, about 25 kilometers east of the airport.

Air Transat said in a statement: “We can confirm that an incident occurred on June 2, 2024, involving a bus from one of our transportation partners, carrying 38 passengers from flight TS715 to Montreal, near Santa Clara Airport, Cuba (SNU). A car lost control and collided with the bus, causing it to overturn.”

Air Transat added, “All passengers were attended to immediately and taken to a nearby hospital. We are certainly concerned about everyone's health and well-being and are doing our utmost to provide the necessary support during this difficult time.”

It concluded, “Our team responded quickly to ensure immediate medical care. We have been working closely with local authorities and arranged accommodation at a nearby hotel for passengers being monitored or suffering from minor injuries, repatriation efforts are underway, we are closely monitoring the situation and providing ongoing support on-site to all affected individuals. Our hearts are with those travelers.”
