Calgary police confirmed that three people were injured in a stabbing incident that occurred on Tuesday at 11:05 PM local time, inside the Midway area of the Calgary Stampede.
The police stated in a release issued after midnight that the victims were taken to the hospital in what was described as “serious but stable” condition, suggesting that the attack “was not random, but targeted.”
A spokesperson for Calgary police said:
“Preliminary investigations indicate that this is a targeted attack against the victims and there is no ongoing risk to other festival attendees.”
Authorities added that the suspects fled the scene before police arrived, noting that an investigation is ongoing to identify the assailants.
In a separate statement, the organizers of the Calgary Stampede expressed their deep regret over the incident, confirming that they are working closely with police to enhance security measures.
Police urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has video recordings to contact investigators via the hotline 403-266-1234 or through the Crime Stoppers service to provide information confidentially.
