Amman – Arab Canada News
The Jordanian government announced today, Tuesday, that the General Intelligence Directorate thwarted a series of plots it described as “dangerous,” which aimed to jeopardize national security and incite chaos and sabotage within the kingdom, through the manufacturing of missiles, possession of explosive materials, and the formation of cells to carry out hostile acts internally.
The Intelligence Directorate confirmed in an official statement that it “arrested 16 individuals holding Jordanian nationality, following precise intelligence monitoring that extended since 2021, based on their involvement in executing sabotage schemes that affect the country’s security and stability.”
Details of the plots and evidence
The statement clarified that the suspects were working on manufacturing missiles using homemade tools, in addition to importing advanced components from abroad for illicit purposes. Security forces also seized explosive materials and firearms, as well as a missile prepared for use, and equipment and components for a drone manufacturing project.
The intelligence indicated that investigations also revealed a program to recruit and train elements within the kingdom, and coordinate additional training operations for them abroad, as part of their preparation to carry out sabotage operations.
Referral to the judiciary and legal action
According to the General Intelligence Directorate, all suspects have been referred to the State Security Court, where legal proceedings against them have begun in accordance with Jordanian legislation related to combating terrorism and undermining internal security.
Specific information about the identities of those involved
In this context, the "Independent Arab" newspaper reported from informed sources that some of the detainees belong to the Islamic current, including members of the Shura Council of the most important Islamic current in Jordan. No official comment on these accusations has yet been issued by this Islamic current in Jordan.
Government warning and security tightening
For its part, the Jordanian government stressed that the kingdom “will not tolerate any attempt to undermine its security or target its stability,” and confirmed that security forces are “at the highest level of readiness to pursue any activity that affects national sovereignty.”
It also warned against dealing with any entities or individuals seeking to implement foreign agendas by threatening the safety of citizens or state institutions.
