The Japanese Cabinet approved today, Tuesday, the visit of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako to Britain from June 22 to June 29, after postponing the visit in 2020 due to the Corona pandemic.

The Kyodo News Agency reported that the Emperor and Empress plan to attend a luncheon with the royal family, and they will also visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Westminster Abbey to lay a wreath on June 25. King Charles III and Queen Camilla will host a dinner for the Emperor and Empress at Buckingham Palace on the same day.

The Emperor and Empress will attend an official dinner at Guildhall in London the following day. After that, they will visit Windsor Castle and lay a wreath at the graves of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

The Emperor and Empress will visit the University of Oxford on June 28, where both studied.

This is the second overseas tour for the Emperor and Empress since their official visit to Indonesia in June 2023, and it is their first visit to Britain since Emperor Akihito's visit in 1998.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in a statement, "I am confident that this visit will reaffirm the friendship and goodwill of both countries through communication between the Imperial Family and the British royal family, and it will strengthen the excellent relations between the two countries."
