Israeli President Isaac Herzog said, "The vast majority supports achieving a deal for the exchange of prisoners and detainees with Hamas."

He added in a post on his official page on the "X" platform, today, Sunday, that the return of those held by the resistance in Hamas is "an obligation of the state."

He continued: "Our commitment to bringing back the captives is an absolute and supreme commitment, and we do not forget them for even a moment, and everyone is working for their swift return to their homes." Protests have surged in Israel demanding a prisoner exchange deal, the overthrow of Netanyahu's government, the dissolution of the Knesset, and early elections.

This comes alongside expected talks in Doha this week regarding an exchange deal between Israel and the Islamic resistance movement (Hamas).

Axios reported from Israeli sources that the head of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency is meeting this week in Doha with the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and that an Israeli delegation of experts will also head to Doha to discuss executive issues.

Over the months, mediation efforts led by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar have aimed to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas that guarantees a prisoner exchange from both sides and a ceasefire that ensures humanitarian aid enters the Palestinian territory. However, mediation efforts have been hindered by Netanyahu's refusal to respond to Hamas's demands to halt the war.
