The Canadian Environmental Agency has stated that most areas of Ontario are under extended extreme cold warnings, with wind chill values in many areas reaching around -40 degrees Celsius.

The agency has issued warnings for extreme cold that include the areas surrounding Lake Huron and Georgian Bay and extend to the northern regions. These cold conditions are expected to persist in the communities near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay until Wednesday, while it is expected that the severity of the cold will ease in the areas close to Lake Superior on Tuesday.

Currently, there are no warnings or advisories issued for Toronto or the Greater Toronto Area (GTHA), although the region is expected to experience some of the coldest temperatures recorded in recent years over the next few days, with wind chill effects making it feel as though temperatures are ranging from -20 to -25 degrees Celsius. These severe cold conditions are expected to continue until Wednesday.

The agency has also issued a snowstorm warning for Northern Huron County and surrounding areas, where significant snowfall amounts of between 30 and 60 centimeters are expected by Wednesday.

The Canadian Environmental Agency confirmed that extreme cold temperatures pose a risk to everyone, and exposure to the cold can lead to frostbite within just minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill effects.

Note: Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to avoid direct exposure to the extreme cold and to stay indoors as much as possible, while wearing appropriate clothing when going outside.
