The Canadian Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, François-Philippe Champagne, has called for a "wartime-like effort" in building national infrastructure, emphasizing that Canada needs to accelerate the pace of implementing major strategic projects to support economic growth and ensure national security.

In an interview with CTV News, Champagne stressed that the current slowdown in project completion is hindering the country's progress, stating: "We need a different vision for how we plan, fund, and execute infrastructure projects. It requires long-term thinking and a collective commitment similar to what we've seen during national emergencies."

The minister noted that the federal government is currently preparing a national plan to accelerate infrastructure development, particularly in the sectors of transportation, energy, housing, and communications, calling for a close partnership between the federal government, provinces, and the private sector.

He added: "Canadians expect us to take action, especially amid challenges related to housing, supply chains, and digital transformation. We cannot wait for years to accomplish what needs to be done now."

These statements come amid rising discussions in Parliament about the government's plans to stimulate investment in infrastructure projects and to remove administrative and financial obstacles facing them, with warnings that delays in this area could threaten Canada's competitiveness in the global economy.
