The shooting near the home of famous rapper Drake in Toronto resulted in a security officer being seriously injured yesterday, Tuesday, according to the Canadian police, which has opened an investigation into the incident.
Detective Paul Kravchik from the Toronto police told reporters yesterday, Tuesday, that "individuals in a vehicle fired shots" around two in the morning (six in the morning GMT) near Drake's home.
He added, "I can't tell you whether Drake was at home when the shooting occurred, but I can tell you that we are in contact with his team."
The police clarified that the security officer was outside the house, at the gate. The vehicle fled the scene.
The police, which did not provide any description of the suspects or the wanted vehicle, indicated that the security officer "remained in critical condition in the hospital" until yesterday, Tuesday, noon.
The police had set up a security cordon around the rapper's house in the morning and imposed strict surveillance to prevent onlookers from approaching the scene of the incident.
In recent days, the long-standing feud between Canadian Drake (37) and American rapper Kendrick Lamar (36) has escalated, as the two singers exchanged insults and accusations in their new songs, causing a wave of shock in the United States among musicians and other fields.
Detective Paul Kravchik stated: "I am aware of (this dispute), but it is too early to determine a motive at this stage of the investigation."
He announced that the "increased police presence" in the neighborhood where Drake's house is located will continue "for a long time."
