In the largest action of its kind, the Higher Committee for the Nationality Investigation decided to revoke and lose Kuwaiti nationality from 930 cases in preparation for presenting them to the Cabinet.
The Ministry of Interior stated in a statement that the Higher Committee for the Nationality held a meeting today, presided over by the Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahd Al-Yusuf; where it made its decision to revoke and lose Kuwaiti nationality from 930 cases; in preparation for presenting them to the Cabinet.
On October 31, the Higher Committee for the Nationality Investigation had decided to revoke and lose Kuwaiti nationality from 489 cases, in the largest process of revocation of Kuwaiti nationality carried out simultaneously, since September 20, when it revoked nationality from 112 cases.
There are no official statistics on the number of cases of revocation of Kuwaiti nationality since the committee began its work in early March; as Kuwaiti authorities launched a campaign to revoke nationalities for various reasons, foremost among them fraud. By the end of September, unofficial statistics estimated the number of those whose nationalities were revoked at more than 2,000 people, some of whom are still awaiting the issuance of a decree for revocation of nationality.
Kuwaiti Interior Minister Sheikh Fahd Al-Yusuf pointed out that the revocation of nationality occurs for individuals and dependents who obtained it without fulfilling the legal conditions, including the issuance of a decree granting nationality; as members of previous governments have circumvented this law, granting approvals for nationality applications without waiting for a decree to be issued.
Al-Yusuf clarified in a statement to a local newspaper that those whose nationalities were revoked did not object to the committee's decisions, as they are supported by evidential documents and clues, stressing that the nationality revocation file will proceed, stating: “We are still at the beginning,” and that the processes of nationality revocation continue after examination and scrutiny.
