Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan confirmed on Tuesday that there is a consensus of opinions between Ankara and the Syrian administration on all issues, expressing his happiness to welcome his Syrian counterpart Ahmad al-Shara in Ankara.
Erdoğan said at a joint press conference with Ahmad al-Shara at the presidential complex in the capital Ankara that the Syrian people have witnessed all kinds of oppression over the past years and have been subjected to various types of brutal massacres, including with chemical weapons.
He added, "About one million of our Syrian brothers have been martyred as a result of the attacks by the previous regime and terrorist organizations, and millions have been forced to leave their homes and lands," according to the Anadolu Agency.
He continued: "But despite all that, the brave sons of Syria did not abandon the struggle against the oppressive regime and its supporters, to ultimately achieve victory and make Syria belong to its people on December 8."
Erdoğan emphasized that after 13 years of blood and tears, a new page has been opened not just in Syria but in the entire region.
He said, "Just as we did not leave our Syrian brothers alone during the difficult days, we will also provide them with the necessary support in this new phase."
He added, "I discussed with my dear brother al-Shara the joint steps that can be taken to establish security and economic stability in Syria." He described al-Shara's visit to Turkey as "historic," marking the beginning of a new era of lasting friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Erdoğan pointed out that he discussed the political developments with al-Shara, affirming that Turkey places great importance at this critical stage on forming a Syrian administration with an inclusive approach that embraces all and reflects the will of all Syrians.
He confirmed Turkey's readiness to support the reconstruction of destroyed cities and infrastructure in Syria, expressing his confidence that the voluntary return of Syrian refugees will gain momentum with the rapid economic development in the country.
Last Wednesday, the new Syrian administration announced the appointment of al-Shara as the president of the country in the transitional phase, along with other decisions including the dissolution of the existing security agencies from the previous era, the People's Assembly, and the Baath Party that ruled the country for decades, and the cancellation of the previous constitution.
