Qatar rejected, on Wednesday, the accusations made by the Israeli internal security agency "Shin Bet," linking the increasing power of Hamas before the October 7, 2023 attack to funds provided by Doha to the movement.
In a statement issued by the Qatari International Media Office, Doha confirmed that "the false accusations from the Shin Bet reflect a deliberate distortion serving Israeli political interests."
The "Shin Bet" had published a report on Tuesday acknowledging its failure to prevent the attack launched by Hamas from Gaza, indicating that "the flow of Qatari funds to the military wing of the movement" was one of the factors that enhanced its military capabilities.
In its response, Qatar stressed that "all Qatari assistance to Gaza was carried out with the knowledge and approval of previous Israeli governments and their security agencies, including the Shin Bet, and under their supervision," emphasizing that no aid went to either the political or military wings of Hamas.
Doha, which has hosted the political office of Hamas since 2012 with American support, has always denied accusations of supporting armed factions, reaffirming its pivotal role in mediating between Hamas and Israel, in coordination with the United States and Egypt.
The Qatari statement urged Israeli security agencies to focus on finding a solution that ensures regional security and saves the remaining hostages, instead of "resorting to misleading tactics," stressing that "the claim that Qatari aid was directed to Hamas is completely unfounded and represents an attempt to prolong the war."
