During an official visit that reflects the depth of the strategic partnership between the two countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin received the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on Thursday in the capital, Moscow. The two sides held extensive discussions covering the developments of the war in Gaza, the future of the Syrian crisis, and ways to strengthen bilateral relations at the political and economic levels.

During his reception of Emir Tamim, Putin emphasized that Qatar is an important partner for Russia in the Gulf and the Middle East, stressing the importance of continued coordination between the two countries on regional and international issues, especially in light of rising tensions that threaten security and stability in the region.

The two sides stressed the necessity of reaching urgent political solutions to end the war in the Gaza Strip and halt the ongoing military escalation, due to its grave repercussions on humanitarian conditions and regional security. They also exchanged views regarding the Syrian file, reaffirming their support for paths towards stability, reconstruction, and the return of refugees.

Emir Tamim was accompanied by a high-level delegation that included the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, who held meetings with a number of senior Russian officials to discuss files of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic, trade, and investment fields.

The visit coincided with the launch of the Qatari-Russian Business Forum in Moscow, which brought together a select group of businessmen and investors from both countries, showcasing opportunities for cooperation in the sectors of energy, health, pharmaceuticals, tourism, infrastructure, transport and logistics services, and modern technology.

The forum comes at a time when both countries are seeking to enhance their economic partnership, amidst global geopolitical challenges and the need to diversify markets and sources of strategic cooperation.

The visit of the Emir of Qatar to Moscow holds special significance, as it comes during a critical phase witnessing unprecedented escalation in Gaza, alongside ongoing tensions in the Syrian arena, making coordination between Moscow and Doha a pivotal element in efforts to contain crises and enhance regional stability.
