York Region Public Health tracked the movements of a man with a confirmed case of measles and learned that he ate at a restaurant in Mississauga while sick.

The patient is a man in his thirties who has not recently traveled and has not been near anyone else with measles. This is the fourth recent measles case in Ontario in recent weeks, including a child who required hospitalization.

Another case involves a person with measles who toured around Mississauga to attend a Walmart store and several medical facilities.

This case is unique in that the source of infection is still unknown. What is known is that he went to several locations around Mississauga and Vaughan.

York Health said: “Anyone who may have been exposed at these times and locations should immediately confirm that they have received two doses of the measles vaccine. If you were present at the times and locations mentioned above and have an infant under 6 months of age, or suffer from immunodeficiency, please contact York Region Public Health immediately.”

There is currently a large outbreak of measles in Europe with over 40,000 cases, including many severe cases. Anyone traveling abroad should confirm that they have received two doses of the measles vaccine.
