Ontario Premier and Conservative leader Doug Ford said yesterday, Tuesday, following the increase in the federal carbon tax, which led, among other things, to an increase in gasoline costs by about 3 cents per liter.
Repeating the condemnations of other provincial conservative premiers in the country and federal Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, Ford pointed out that the carbon tax raises the prices of everything, including groceries.
For his part, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defended himself, noting that Canadians will receive rebates in return. The country's leader reiterated that 8 out of 10 Canadian families receive more money than the cost they will incur due to the carbon price increase.
It is noteworthy that the carbon tax affects provinces that do not have their own carbon pricing system, such as Ontario.
Ford expects the Liberal Party leader at the head of the federal government to lose in the upcoming election if he does not change his mind.
He confirmed that the carbon tax must be canceled, otherwise Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will not remain in office after a year and a half.
Ford sees that the federal carbon tax leads to increased living costs in Ontario and kills businesses.
He affirms that drivers in the province lined up in long queues at gas stations over the weekend to refuel before the carbon tax increase on April 1.
Ford was accompanied at the press conference he held yesterday, Tuesday, by Ontario Federation of Agriculture president Drew Spoelstra. The latter expressed his grave concern about the increase in production costs for farmers.
Ontario and other provinces have challenged the carbon tax all the way to the Supreme Court, but to no avail.
