The police said that two "very large dogs" killed an 11-year-old boy in southeast Edmonton Monday night.

The police were called to investigate a report of a dog attack at a home in the area of 82 Street and 11 Street S.W. just before 8 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers identified an 11-year-old boy who had been attacked by two very large dogs, "Edmonton Police Service wrote in a statement on Tuesday, ultimately announcing that the child died."

Animal control officers seized the dogs.

The police said the dogs belonged to someone living in the home the boy was visiting.

The police are investigating the matter, and the autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
