The pilots working at Air Canada announced their readiness to enter into a strike, starting next month.

The union confirmed that they are currently in the process of a strike vote, and they could find themselves in a position to stop working by mid-September.

The first officer Charlene Hoody, chair of the main executive council of the Canadian airline, stated that both sides had made progress during mediation earlier this year, but talks have since stalled.

The strike vote closes on August 22, and depending on the outcome, the union may be in a position to strike as early as the end of the cooling-off period.

The union issued a statement saying: “Our goal is to avoid the proposed strike, and we focus on negotiating a modern contract that Air Canada pilots will strongly support.”

Hoody claims that the airline has not listened to the most important needs of the pilots, which she lists as fair compensation, retirement benefits, and permanent improvements for life.

It is worth noting that Air Canada stated that it recently reached an agreement with the pilots regarding a number of items and that the airline plans to operate normally until mid-September.
