In a separate context, the provincial police reported that a driver allegedly involved in a fatal accident in Mississauga in 2021 has turned himself in to the Ontario Provincial Police.
The collision occurred on November 5, 2021, shortly before 3 a.m., after an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police in Mississauga attempted to stop a black vehicle that appeared to be driving erratically near Highway 410 and Sandalwood Parkway in Brampton, Ontario.
The police said the car then fled before crashing into a red vehicle at the intersection of Sandalwood Road and Dixie Road.
The 21-year-old driver of the red vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement released on Friday, the police office said that on January 9, 2024, the driver of the black car turned himself in to police in Kenora, Ontario; as a result, Harkamalpreet Singh, 27, from Winnipeg, was charged with dangerous operation causing death, fleeing a police officer, and failure to stop at the scene of a fatal accident.
The charges have not been tested in court. Singh is scheduled to appear for the first time at Brampton Court on February 23.
